Johnny's First Toast

"I was planning on coming here once I heard it opened. Their teriyaki steak and eggs are just like Ninis. Cute place, 2 stories, and a bar inside. Our waiter let us know that they can make other omlettes and some other orders that aren't on the menu that ninis had when they were open. I'm definitely coming back here as a regular."

"First time trying this place this morning, walked in around 8:45am.
We were greeted immediately, we were surprised to be the only ones in there.

We ordered teriyaki steak and eggs, banana pancakes, and we had coffee. The coffee was one of the best I have had, and the leave you the pot what more can you ask for.

The steak I ordered well done, it was perfect. It was so tender, juicy, and fully of flavor, it came with onions and mushrooms. The house potatoes could use a little salt, but they were cooked perfectly.

Banana pancakes, fluffy and all around delicious.

Customer service was one of the best we have received in a long time at any restaurant. I was surprised this place wasn't full, the food and service beat any restaurant we have been to

"Breakfast Review: I enjoyed a delicious, nutritious breakfast by ordering Sausage, Eggs, Potatoes, and Toast. My over-easy egg was perfect, the potatoes tasty (cooked with fresh onions and spices), and good hot coffee. I received quick, friendly service. Seating upstairs and downstairs. Clean NEW bathroom. Parking in the back, on El Camino, and on side streets. I will eat here again."

"My husband and I came here on a Saturday morning. We got the corned beef hash and chilaquiles. Both were amazing! We'll definitely be back. Johnny's is a great addition to San Mateo!"

"Food and service were great. I recommend the Chilaquiles but their American breakfast items are also delicious. My husband loved his Denver omelet and home style potatoes. Everything is well made and homemade, you won't be disappointed. Great place for a date, self care meal, cheat day, hangover or just because you're hungry."

We heard through the grapevine the the chefs from Nini's in Burlingame opened up a restaurant in San Mateo, so we had to check it out!!
We were not disappointed!
A lot of the old standards from Nini's are still available and tastes the same!
Portions are huge as you can see from the photos!
We tried the Corned Beef Hash and the Basic breakfast with 4 slices of bacon!!
One of the former waiters that we've known for over 35 yrs, Ken, welcomed us when we walked in! It was heaven to taste those flavors we've missed from Nini's!! Come check them out while there's NO WAITING!!"
